During a hearing at the Sindh High Court (SHC), Justice Salahuddin Panhwar encountered an unexpected response from a grade 17 officer concerning his BA in Mathematics degree.
The legal proceedings centred on a petition challenging the cancellation of lease plots within the Qureshi Cooperative Society. The society’s Registrar, Muharram Ali Sand, represented the defence.
The petitioners’ counsel argued that Sand had improperly cancelled their leases, leading them to seek judicial intervention.
Justice Panhwar delved into Sand’s credentials during the hearing. Sand disclosed that he was a grade 17 officer in the local government and had obtained his BA in Mathematics from Shah Latif University as a private student.
The mood in the courtroom shifted when Sand could not spell “Math,” prompting laughter among those present.
Further complicating matters revealed that Zameer Abbasi, a grade 18 officer serving as Registrar of Cooperative Societies, was functioning in a grade 19 role, adding to the court’s surprise.
After hearing all arguments, the court adjourned the proceedings until May 22.
