The Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon to report on cases against PTI leader Azam Swati.
Justice Muhammad Karim Khan Agha made the directions during the Perween Rehman murder case hearing. The judge asked IGP Ghulam Nabi about the several FIRs against the PTI senator.
IGP Ghulam Nabi briefed the court that Azam Sawato was arrested three days ago, as he’s facing two lawsuits for tweeting about military commanders.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested him on November 27 from Islamabad for a “very disgusting campaign of intimidating tweets […] against state institutions.” He was first detained in Quetta and is now in Sindh’s Qambar.
Sindh police arrested Swati last week for two crimes in Warah and Qambar after the Balochistan High Court dismissed all charges against him.
The SHC court asked the IG Sindh, “We have heard that cases have also been filed against a former prime minister. How can multiple FIRs can be registered in one offense?”
On this point, Justice KK Agha referred to a ruling of the Supreme Court on this.
