Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) member of Sindh assembly Shazia Farooq attempted to commit suicide after she was accused of selling vote in Senate elections.
MPA Shazia Javed on Tuesday was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital after she overdosed on sleeping pills. However, hospital has confirmed that she is out of danger.
Javed had reportedly overdosed after she was overcome with grief by a slew of allegations against her. She was admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit, where her condition was stabilised.
Doctors said she made an attempt to end her life by excessively consuming sleeping pills; however, she was transported to hospital on time and was treated with gastric irrigation.
Speaking to the media outside the hospital Javed’s son Muhammad Farooq refuted the suicide report, said his mother was upset over the party’s allegation of giving vote to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in Senate elections, adding, “As she is a heart patient, she took it seriously and that is why, her condition deteriorated.”
“She did not cast her vote. She had conflicts with Kamran Tessori bhai (brother) and Farooq Sattar bhai so she gave an emotional statement in her interview after the election and everyone thought she had voted for the Pakistan Peoples Party.” Farooq added
Addressing a press conference earlier yesterday at PIB Colony, MQM-P Dr Farooq Sattar said, “We have issued show-cause notices to six MPAs for voting PPP in the elections,” he said, adding that those issued notices include four women members, one minority and one MPA from interior Sindh
