Former Pakistani cricketer and captain Shahid Afridi has declared his intention to disclose the internal dynamics of the national cricket team following the T20 World Cup.
During a private TV Channel, Samaa News discussion, Afridi was questioned about the team’s unity; Afridi vowed to disclose the Pakistan team and management internal dynamics after the World Cup.
Afridi and former cricketer Muhammad Wasim, who was also on the panel, acknowledged their deep knowledge of the team’s internal affairs. However, he noted the constraints in openly discussing such matters. He highlighted that the ultimate responsibility for team cohesion rests with the captain, who must effectively lead and unify the team.
Emphasizing the critical role of the captain, Afridi commented, “A captain either builds the team or disrupts the team environment. It is up to the captain to instil unity, a task that starts even before the involvement of coaches or team management. The authority lies with the captain, and the selection committee’s role is supportive.”
Afridi also addressed his connections within the team, specifically regarding his relationship with fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, who is married to his daughter. He expressed concerns about potential biases in public perception, asserting that he remains objective and willing to critique any family member if necessary.
Concluding his remarks, Afridi promised to openly discuss the various challenges and missteps made by the cricket board and the selection committee after the World Cup, suggesting that these errors have significantly undermined the team’s performance.
