Shaheen Afridi, the Pakistani fast bowler, recently made headlines following allegations of misconduct with head coach Gary Kirsten and other members of the coaching staff during the England tour and the T20 World Cup 2024 dropped a cryptic message on X.
Reports indicated that although the team managers were aware of Shaheen Afridi’s misconduct, they did not take any disciplinary action. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has remained silent on these accusations. At the same time, Shaheen responded by posting a cryptic video on social media of himself bowling in the nets, captioned “Rise Above.”
Multiple media reports in Pakistan had previously accused Shaheen of similar misconduct. Sources informed Geo News, “Shaheen Afridi’s misconduct with the coaches and management during recent tours, yet the team managers failed to address the pacer’s inappropriate behaviour.”
The reports further highlighted that maintaining discipline was the responsibility of the managers, prompting an investigation into why no action was taken against Shaheen.
In a related development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz would no longer serve on the national selection committee. Razzaq held positions on both the men’s and women’s selection committees, while Wahab was a selector for the men’s team. The PCB also removed Wahab from his role as senior team manager, alongside team manager Rana Mansoor, citing disciplinary issues.
Over the past four years, the PCB has seen frequent changes in its selection committee, with Wahab, Mohammad Wasim, Shahid Afridi, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Haroon Rashid, and Misbah-ul-Haq all serving brief tenures. Sources revealed that Wahab and Mansoor had been providing undue favours to certain players, some of whom failed to perform adequately.
