Shahbaz Taseer, son of murdered Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer, has been recovered after well over four years of his abduction.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Inter Services Public Relations confirmed the recovery of Shahbaz from Kuchlak, on outskirts of Quetta.
Aitzaz Goraya, head of the Balochistan’s Counter-Terrorism Department told AFP: “Yes, we have recovered him.”
“Acting on a tip off, intelligence forces and police went to a compound in the Kuchlak district some 25 kilometres north of Quetta,” Goraya added.
“We surrounded the compound and we raided it. We didn’t find anyone. A single person was there and he told us my name is Shahbaz and my father’s name is Salmaan Taseer.”
Goraya described Taseer, who is in his early thirties, as being in “feeble” health.
The sources said that the son of former Punjab governor would undergo medical examination after which he is likely to be presented before media.
Shahbaz was kidnapped from Gulberg area of Lahore in August 26, 2011, months after assassination of his father. He is said to be taken to Pak-Afghan tribal region , where he was handed over to Taliban groups.
His recovery comes a week after Mumtaz Qadri, the convicted assassin of Salmaan Taseer, was hanged on murder charges.
