Serena Williams hosted the ESPY Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, delivering a spirited monologue that spared no celebrity, including absentees Taylor Swift and her boyfriend Travis Kelce.
During her stint as host in ESPY Awards, Williams humorously addressed various celebrities, from Drake to Bronny James and Prince Harry. She jokingly poked fun at Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, “Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes and Taylor Swift’s boyfriend won a Super Bowl this year.”
She also commented on reports about Swift and Kelce’s spending habits, quipping, “Travis and Taylor reportedly spend $100,000 a day on romance. That’s what Jaylen Brown spends on his beard,” before playfully adding, “It’s very shiny. I like it, though.”
Swift and Kelce have had an eventful summer, with the singer touring Europe and Kelce participating in a karaoke competition at a celebrity golf event in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Kelce dedicated his rendition of Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again” to Swift.
Williams also shared humorous remarks about other sports figures, including LeBron James’ son, Bronny, making his debut with the Los Angeles Lakers. She joked, “I truly hope Bronny has a long career, so long that we see his hairline recede and then miraculously un-recede like his dad.”
Further, Williams mentioned a diss track by Kendrick Lamar aimed at Drake, advising, “If I’ve learned anything this year, it’s that none of us should ever pick a fight with Kendrick Lamar.”
Williams’s vibrant personality and sharp wit made the three-hour show feel much shorter, providing entertainment and laughter throughout the event.
