Local authorities are currently investigating the cause of the blast, with initial reports suggesting that a domestic gas cylinder may be involved.
Elected as an Independent Senator in 2009, Afridi served as Federal Minister for Textile Industry from 2014. He later joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), contesting the 2018 and 2024 general elections from Kohat’s NA-32 and NA-35 but losing to Shehryar Afridi. On June 25, 2024, he switched to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
