Former Pakistani Senator Abbas Afridi has died from injuries sustained in a gas leak explosion that occurred in Khuzdar, Balochistan, the day before.

The blast, which critically injured Afridi and three associates, took place at his residence. He passed away at the Burn Centre in Khuzdar, as confirmed by his nephew, Hussain Afridi.

On June 4, 2025, an explosion caused by a gas leak left Afridi and his associates severely injured. He was quickly taken to the Burn Centre but ultimately succumbed to his wounds. The family has not yet announced the details of the funeral prayers.

Local authorities are currently investigating the cause of the blast, with initial reports suggesting that a domestic gas cylinder may be involved.

Elected as an Independent Senator in 2009, Afridi served as Federal Minister for Textile Industry from 2014. He later joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), contesting the 2018 and 2024 general elections from Kohat’s NA-32 and NA-35 but losing to Shehryar Afridi. On June 25, 2024, he switched to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
