Donald Trump has ramped up deportations, with reports from last Sunday indicating as many as 926 arrests, marking the largest single-day sweep since his return to office. This operation has elicited widespread reactions, including a heartfelt response from pop star Selena Gomez, who expressed her concerns through Instagram stories.

Amid the escalating deportations, Selena Gomez took to Instagram to share her distress over the treatment of Mexican deportees, visibly moved by their plight. “All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise,” Gomez said, tearfully. Despite her intentions, the reaction to her posts was polarized, prompting her to remove them shortly after.

Selena Gomez shares emotional Instagram Story about the deportation of Mexican people:

The singer’s emotional plea prompted mixed reactions online. Some criticized her for seeking attention, while others defended her empathy and connection to her Mexican heritage. Comments ranged from dismissive to supportive, illustrating the topic’s divisive nature.

President Trump remains committed to his aggressive immigration policies, regardless of backlash from celebrities or foreign governments. The administration has even proposed sanctions against countries like Colombia for initially refusing to accept deported individuals, though they later complied.

Under former President Joe Biden, approximately 1.5 million people were deported over four years, a figure that closely matches those during Trump’s previous term. With Trump back in power, the number of deportations is expected to rise as part of his broader immigration strategy.

This evolving situation continues to provoke debate both within the United States and internationally, with figures like Selena Gomez bringing additional attention to the human impact of these policies.
