Security forces killed four terrorists in an intelligence-based operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district, the military’s media wing reported on Monday.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a statement detailing that the operation occurred last night following reports of terrorist activity in the area. “Our troops effectively engaged the terrorist location, resulting in four terrorists being neutralized,” stated the ISPR. The release further noted that these individuals had been involved in numerous terrorist activities locally.
Additionally, the operation led to the recovery of weapons and ammunition from the deceased terrorists.
The local community expressed appreciation for the security forces’ efforts, which are part of a broader commitment to eradicate terrorism from the country, according to the ISPR.
This operation follows a recent clash on Sunday in Dera Ismail Khan district, where security forces killed two militants, Nawaz alias Gandapuri and Mohsin Nawaz, during a fierce gunfight.
Pakistan has seen a rise in terrorist incidents over the past year, particularly in KP and Balochistan, following the termination of a ceasefire by the banned militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in November 2022.
A recent annual security report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies highlighted that in 2023, Pakistan experienced 1,524 violence-related deaths and 1,463 injuries from 789 terror-related incidents and counter-terror operations, marking the highest in six years.
KP and Balochistan were identified as the major hotspots, accounting for over 90% of the fatalities and 84% of the attacks, which included both terrorist acts and operations by security forces.
