Security forces thwarted an armed assault on a naval airbase near Turbat late Monday amidst reports of gunfire and explosions.
Makran Commissioner Saeed Ahmed Umrani reported intense gunfire and blasts near Turbat airport. “The attackers struck the airport’s boundary from three directions. Security personnel immediately countered, preventing their entry,” he explained via phone from Turbat. Umrani did not disclose casualty numbers, noting the district hospital had no reports of fatalities or injuries by press time.
The assault was repelled at PNS Siddique, one of the nation’s largest naval air stations. “Security forces neutralized six terrorists outside Turbat airport’s boundary, securing the base,” officials announced Monday. They credited the FC’s special operation wing and the navy’s special services for isolating the attackers, with no naval assets harmed.
Turbat residents reported hearing over a dozen explosions and sustained gunfire starting around 10 pm. The Balochistan Liberation Army’s Majeed Brigade claimed responsibility for the incident. Yet, as of press time, there were no statements from ISPR or the Balochistan government.
