The Supreme Court’s deadline given to the government for the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ends today but no name for the slot has been finalized yet.
On November 13th, the three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Dost Muhammad Khan heard the case regarding CEC’s appointment.
Prime Minister and opposition leader would recommend three names each to the parliamentary committee in case none of the names get agreed upon.
The deadline for appointment of CEC at first was October 28 that was revised and extended to November 13 after opposition leader Khursheed Shah’s request.
