The Supreme Court of Pakistan Friday ordered all state institutions and officials to work as per the Constitution.

A five-member bench of the Supreme Court announced a judgment on a petition filed against possible unconstitutional move in the wake of current political situation.

The decision is significant especially in the backdrop of speculations by certain quarters that political deadlock and unrest can pave the way for any unconstitutional move.

The five-member larger bench comprises Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa and Justice Mushir Alam.

The constitution petition was filed by Kamran Murtaza, President of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan.

In this petition, Murtaza has prayed that, “the Supreme Court may declare that the fundamental rights of the citizens of the country may not be violated by any authority or state functionaries and that they should be restrained to take any extra constitutional steps in the present situation of the country in any manner”.
