The Supreme Court (SC) issued an order prohibiting the use of pictures of elected officials and other public figures on official papers, projects, and buildings.
In the Rawalpindi slums case, the court granted these directives in a five-page judgment written by Justice Qazi Faez Isa.
The decision questioned why Chaudhary Pervez Elahi’s pictures were included on the certificates for houses situated in a Rawalpindi slum.
The supreme court ruled that personal advertising could not be permitted at the expense of public funds since it violates one’s oath of office.
According to the court’s order, attaching photos for personal use on government property is wrong.
The SC justice stated, “Pakistan is not anyone’s realm where the people bend before the rulers, and we must be alert to protect the country’s democratic character.
In its judgment, the Supreme Court mandated that all chief secretaries and the federal government oversee the execution of the ruling.
