The Dubai Sports Council, established in 2005, named former Indian tennis star Sania Mirza as its sports ambassador. This body shapes the sports landscape in the UAE’s capital by overseeing Dubai’s seven local sports clubs and promoting physical activity, particularly among women and children.

At 37, Mirza celebrated this appointment by expressing her gratitude on Instagram: “Honoured and grateful to be a sports ambassador for Dubai! Thank you for this incredible opportunity, Dubai Sports Council. “

The announcement event drew sports luminaries such as UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and ex-Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh. Mirza’s Instagram followers quickly filled her feed with congratulatory messages, applauding her significant accomplishment.

Having retired from professional tennis after the 2023 Australian Open, Mirza now dedicates her time to her family and son Izhaan Mirza-Malik.
