Peshawar police registered a First Information Report (FIR) at Sharqi Police Station concerning the alleged kidnapping of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) social media activist Sanam Javed. Advocate Hira Babar filed the FIR, stating that unknown individuals had abducted Javed.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur took the matter seriously. He has ordered a transparent investigation, demanding immediate arrests and a public disclosure of the findings. PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram detailed the incident on X, stating that two vehicles blocked Javed’s car on a busy highway. The assailants pulled her out of the car in front of her friends and then fled the scene.
In June 2025, the Lahore High Court granted Javed bail in a case involving anti-state social media posts and inciting violence. Justice Farooq Haider approved the bail against a Rs500,000 surety bond. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested her under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and the Pakistan Penal Code for spreading harmful content.
