The San Antonio Spurs (3-2) celebrated another victory against the Phoenix Suns (2-3) on Thursday night at Footprint Center. With this win, Victor Wembanyama, at 19, maintained his unbeaten record against NBA star Kevin Durant, whom he admires.
Wembanyama outshone himself with a staggering 38 points, a significant increase from the one-point win over Phoenix two days earlier. Even the return of Devin Booker from injury couldn’t shift the momentum in favor of the Suns.
Booker’s impressive triple-double, tallying 31 points, combined with Durant’s 28 points, wasn’t sufficient to deter the Spurs. Though they managed to tie the game at 116 in the fourth quarter, they had once lagged by 27 points and never managed to take the lead.
Victor Wembanyama’s Stellar Performance
Emerging as one of the standout players, Wembanyama made a significant mark by adding 10 rebounds, two assists, blocks, and steals to his tally. This feat places him alongside NBA legends Kevin Durant and LeBron James as the only teenagers to achieve such impressive stats in a single game.
Starting his NBA career on a high, Wembanyama has accumulated 103 points in just five games, echoing the early accomplishments of David Robinson, another Spurs rookie who recorded a similar score in a five-game stretch.
Next, the Spurs will be hosting the Toronto Raptors on Sunday, while the Suns are set to face off against the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday.
