PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja Resigns

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) General Secretary Salman Akram Raja has announced his decision to step down from his party position. The senior lawyer stated he will formally request party founder Imran Khan to relieve him of his duties.

Raja made the announcement in a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Monday. Despite resigning from the administrative role, Raja clarified that he will continue to support the party. He pledged to offer his legal services to PTI on a pro bono basis, meaning without charging any fees.

پچھلے منگل میں نے علی بخاری ایڈووکیٹ کے ذریعے عمران خان صاحب کو درخواست بھیجی تھی کہ پارٹی ممبران کو بے تحاشہ ناحق سزاؤں کے پیش نظر مجھے سیکرٹری جنرل کے عہدے سے ہٹ کر قانونی معاملات پر توجہ مرکوز کرنے دی جائے۔ خان صاحب نے میری درخواست منظور نہ کی۔ میں انکے اعتماد پر شکر گزار ہوں۔

This commitment highlights his ongoing dedication to the party’s cause despite stepping away from a key leadership position.

مزدوروں اور پنشنروں کے حقوق کی قانونی جنگ، NRO کیخلاف ڈاکٹر مبشر کی وکالت، جمہوری عمل میں عسکری مداخلت کیخلاف ائر مارشل اصغر خان کی وکالت سے لے کر مقدموں کی طویل فہرست ہے جن میں مجھے اپنے اصولوں کا ساتھ دینے کا موقع ملا۔

In his statement, Raja revealed this was not his first resignation attempt. He disclosed that he had previously submitted a resignation request through Advocate Ali Bukhari.

خان صاحب نے حساس ترین مقدمات میرے سپرد کیے۔ ٹیریان، عدت، سائفر میں کھلی عدالت کا حصول، فوجی عدالتوں کیخلاف آئینی جنگ، مخصوص نشستوں کا مقدمہ اور دیگر میں اللہ تعالیٰ کے فضل سے کامیابی ہوئی۔ جبر کو ۲۶ ویں ترمیم کے ذریعے فوجی عدالتوں اور مخصوص نشستوں کے فیصلوں کو الٹانا پڑا۔

That initial request was not accepted by the party founder. Raja expressed gratitude for the trust shown in him by the party leadership. The senior lawyer indicated that a specific incident prompted his “clear and firm decision.” He did not provide details about the nature of the incident.

میں کوئی روایتی سیاست دان نہیں، نہ جاگیردار نہ مل اونر۔ تاہم میرا مختصر خاندان میرے ساتھ کھڑا ہے۔ ہم نے پارٹی کے اندر اور باہر سے ہر قسم کے رقیق حملوں کو سہا ہے۔ کوئی ملال نہیں۔ اپنی بھرپور وکالت کو پس پشت ڈال کر معاشی بے یقینی کو بخوشی قبول کیا۔

Raja emphasised that his decision was based on his core principles. “My life is an open book, and none of my actions contradict my principles,” he stated. “I cannot accept any compromise on intellectual or financial integrity.”

He confirmed he would formally communicate his decision to Imran Khan on Tuesday, finalising his departure from the role of General Secretary.
