Sabrina Carpenter recently addressed the harsh comments made by record producers Mike Stock, Matt Aitken, and Pete, who criticized her outfits and song lyrics.
The trio’s remarks about Sabrina’s photos being “daring” and potentially reversing women’s rights sparked considerable controversy on social media. Pete, in particular, claimed that Sabrina dresses in a way that “sexualizes” her image, suggesting that this was unnecessary given her obvious talent.
Despite the backlash, Sabrina has firmly established herself as a powerful presence in the music industry. She is known for her talent, lyrics, and confident outfits. Though she’s no stranger to criticism, she responded directly this time.
Sabrina Carpenter’s Empowering Response
In an interview with The Sun, the 25-year-old singer defended her stance gracefully and clearly. “My message has always been clear: If you can’t handle a girl who is confident in her own sexuality, then don’t come to my shows,” Sabrina stated. She pointed out the historical shaming of female artists, mentioning how stars like Rihanna, Britney Spears, and Madonna faced similar criticism in the past. “And now it’s me,” she added.
Sabrina didn’t let the comments affect her: “It’s totally regressive. They don’t comment when I talk about self-care, body positivity, or heartbreak—normal things a 25-year-old goes through. They just focus on the sexual side of my performances,” she said.
Mike Stock persisted in criticising, making controversial remarks about Sabrina’s outfits. He stated, “Women have won all their freedoms and their rights, and now they’re wasting it. If you want respect, don’t come in a thong.” He also criticized her lyrics as “too sexual” and labelled her show as “terrible and lazy.”
