Pakistan welcomed Saad Ahmad Warraich as its new diplomatic lead in India amid ongoing tensions with little hope for progress. Warraich steps in as Charge d’Affaires, taking over from Aizaz Khan, whose term has ended, as announced by the Pakistan High Commission on X.
Previously, Warraich represented Pakistan at the UNGA in New York and held the position of director general overseeing Afghanistan, Turkey, and Iran relations. Asad Gilani now takes over as DG Afghanistan, marking a new chapter in Pakistan’s foreign office.
Relations with India saw a downgrade following New Delhi’s 2019 action on Jammu and Kashmir’s autonomy. The expulsion of India’s Ajay Bisaria from Islamabad highlighted the rift, with Geetika Srivastava recently becoming India’s first female charge d’affaires in Islamabad.
Given the current climate, experts see little chance for improvement between the two nations.
