Russia condemns Iran’s strikes and says it remains in constant contact with Tehran following escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The Kremlin described the situation as “outright aggression” against Iran. Officials expressed deep disappointment over how recent developments unfolded despite what Moscow believed were promising diplomatic efforts.
President Vladimir Putin on Sunday condemned the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, calling it a “cynical” murder. Russia’s Foreign Ministry accused the United States and Israel of plunging the region into what it described as “an abyss of uncontrolled escalation.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russia is analysing the situation and drawing its own conclusions after Washington launched strikes on Iran.
Peskov said Moscow had been hopeful about negotiations between the United States and Iran, which were reportedly mediated by Oman. However, he stated that despite reports of progress, the situation deteriorated into open aggression.
