Robert Downey Jr. Returns as Doctor Doom in “Avengers: Doomsday”

Exciting news for fans of Robert Downey Jr.: the actor is set to make a thrilling return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the forthcoming film Avengers: Doomsday. However, in a surprising twist, Downey will not be reprising his iconic role as Iron Man. Instead, he will portray the villainous Victor von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom.

Downey made this dramatic announcement at San Diego Comic-Con, where he appeared on stage in full Doctor Doom costume. The crowd cheered as he unveiled his new character by removing the mask. He later shared a video and a photo of his Doctor Doom look on Instagram, aptly captioning it, “New mask, same task.”

Joe and Anthony Russo will direct Avengers: Doomsday, marking their return to the Marvel directorial scene. They will also helm Avengers: Secret Wars.

Known for his deep connection with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Downey has openly expressed his eagerness to return. His sentiments were clear when, after winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for Oppenheimer, he discussed his MCU future with Esquire magazine. He enthusiastically stated, “Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, ‘Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige.’ It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”
