Islamabad: Army chief General Raheel Sharif has said that an environment has been created in the country where fear and retribution from terrorists and criminals has largely been reduced.

He was speaking at the convocation of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) at the Jinnah Convention Centre on Monday. The army chief paid rich tribute to the sacrifices of citizens and soldiers in restoration of peace and stability in the country.

“Relative security needs to be transformed into enduring peace and stability for the nation. A ‘Whole-of-Nation’ approach is important to bringing our endeavours to a logical end,” Gen Raheel was quoted as saying by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

While congratulating the new graduates, the army chief said to “steer this country towards success, we need to invest in our future generations”.

“To this end, every individual, especially the educated professionals, have an enormous responsibility. It is my belief that today’s fellows will rise and shine as the future of Pakistan.”

Gen Raheel appreciated the college leadership for improving postgraduate medical education and healthcare services in the country.

CPSP President Prof Zafarullah Chaudhry, in his welcome address, acknowledged the army chief for his historical contributions and strenuous efforts for peace and stability in the country, and his remarkable achievements against terrorism and for modernising the healthcare system in Pakistan Army.

On the occasion, Gen Raheel was also conferred upon the honourary fellowship of the CPSP for his achievements. “General Raheel Sharif through his vision, resolve, sincerity and commitment against terrorism has become a leading figure of our times,” reads the citation of CPSP.
