The family of retired Air Marshal Javed Saeed has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking his immediate release from alleged unlawful detention.
Saeed, a distinguished former officer of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), was reportedly arrested from his Islamabad residence on January 1, 2024, without due legal process.
The petition, filed under Article 199 of the Constitution of Pakistan, names the federal government and PAF as respondents. Saeed’s wife, Shazia Javed, asserts that his detention violates fundamental rights under Pakistani law and international human rights charters, including those endorsed by the United Nations.
Air Marshal Javed Saeed‘s Detention
Advocate Inam-ur-Rehman, representing the petitioner, stated that Saeed, who retired honourably on March 18, 2021—was allegedly abducted by government personnel. Despite efforts to secure his release, PAF authorities have not provided legal justification for his continued detention.
Shockingly, his retirement pension was abruptly stopped, and his wife’s medical entitlements as a retired officer’s spouse were unlawfully revoked. Although her medical access was later restricted only to PAF Hospital E-9, Saeed remains in custody without formal charges or trial.
The petition demands that if any charges exist against Saeed, they must be presented before a competent court under lawful proceedings. Over a year since his detention, his family continues to fight for justice, citing violations of constitutional and human rights.
