A prominent religious scholar in Pakistan attempted to mediate between former Prime Minister Imran Khan and the military establishment, but efforts were unsuccessful.
Senior journalist Ansar Abbasi reported that a religious scholar, whose identity remains undisclosed, attempted to mediate between Imran Khan and the Pakistani establishment before the February 8 elections. However, the mediation efforts were not successful.
Imran Khan, who has been ousted from power since April 2022, has been facing a severe credibility crisis. This stems from his continuous allegations against the military’s high command, including current and former army chiefs. These accusations have intensified since Khan’s removal from office and his subsequent imprisonment.

Over the past two years, Khan has pursued a strategy that oscillates between criticizing the military leadership and pressuring them to facilitate his political comeback by displacing his governmental adversaries.
Despite the military’s clear stance after the February 08 elections and the May 09, 2024 riots, the Pakistan military establishment has stated that there would be no dialogue with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Khan has repeatedly criticised the current army chief and attempted to engage with General Asim Munir and his associates within the establishment.
In a post-election press conference, the military spokesperson affirmed that the army would not discuss with the PTI, marking a firm boundary in the ongoing political discourse.
