Over 20 inmates fled Rawalakot Jail after seizing police officers. Police officials reported that the prisoners fired at the officers, wounding one who was later apprehended.
The escapees, identified as dangerous criminals by the police, engaged in a gunfight on the city’s outskirts, resulting in one inmate’s death.
Most of the fugitives in Rawalakot Jail were either serving life sentences or awaiting execution. Police efforts are ongoing to locate these individuals and stabilize the region.
Authorities have publicized the escapees’ names and dispatched a substantial force to the area. SSP Rawalakot confirmed that a search operation is in progress to recapture the escaped inmates.
The police stated that the killed prisoner had a history of drug trafficking. The district jail staff is currently detained, and an investigation into the breakout is pending.
In a related event, multiple inmates escaped a prison in Chaman, Balochistan, by overpowering guards during early morning prayers.

This escape occurred as the inmates from barrack No. 4 were exiting for prayers. They attacked the guards suddenly, took control, and fled.
Prison sources indicated that barrack No. 4 housed inmates involved in serious offences, including murder.
Following this escape, prison authorities noted that police retaliatory fire killed one inmate and injured two others, who are now receiving medical care.
