In another unfolding development after the Rangers raid at MQM headquaters Nine Zero last week, a case was registered against MQM chief,  Altaf Hussain in Karachi.

The case was registered at Civil Lines Police Station in Karachi, by a top Rangers official under anti-terrorism charges.

Under the charges labeled in the case, the MQM chief is accused of giving threats to Rangers and law enforcement officials.

The case is filed under section 7 of the Anti Terrorism Act 1997 and section 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The case is registered under section 7 of the Anti Terrorism Act 1997.

The section 7.1 of the ATC reads: “A person commits an offence if he- (a) directs, at any level, whilst resident in Pakistan or abroad, activities of an organization concerned with the preparation, instigation or commission of acts of terrorism; or

(b) directs, from within the country or abroad, activities connected with the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism.”
Charges under PPC:

Section 506 of the PPC says:

“Punishment for criminal intimidation: Whoever commences the offence of criminal intimidation shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years or with fine or with both.”

The clause further reads: “And if the threat be to cause death or grievous hurt, or to cause the destruction of any property by fire, or to cause an offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years, or to impute unchastity to a woman, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, or with fine, or with both.”

Colonel Tahir of the paramilitary Rangers has filed the case against the MQM chief.

This is the first case against Mr. Hussain after all cases against him were quashed under National Reconciliation Order (NRO).
