Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah claimed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had finished consultations over the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS) appointment ahead retirement of outgoing General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Sanaullah, while talking to the local news channel Geo News program “Naya Pakistan,” said that the name of the next army chief would be announced in a couple of days.

The interior minister hinted at the finalization of choice for the coveted job by stating, “Just the formal announcement remains.”

He insisted that the choice of the army chief is the premier’s prerogative and that he will soon make the final decision.

General Bajwa will retire on November 29.
