The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts that the first day of Ramadan 2025 will likely be March 2.
According to sources, the Ramadan crescent is unlikely to be visible in Pakistan on February 28. At sunset, the moon will be only 13 hours and 12 minutes old, while the Islamic month begins when the moon is at least 19 hours old.
On February 29, the sky is expected to be partly cloudy, further complicating the sighting of the crescent. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make the final announcement regarding the start of Ramadan and Eid-al-Fitr.
Saudi Arabia’s Ramadan Prediction
In contrast, Saudi Arabia is expected to begin Ramadan on March 1, with the crescent likely to be visible on February 28, according to Saudi authorities. This difference in moon sightings often leads to variations in the start of Ramadan between countries.
In a related development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Utility Stores will not be included in this year’s Ramadan Relief Package. The decision aims to curb corruption and prevent the distribution of substandard goods to the public.
During a federal cabinet meeting, PM Shehbaz stated, “As the Holy Ramadan is about to start, I have asked the Ministry of National Food Security to introduce a Ramadan Package without involving Utility Stores to prevent corruption and the sale of low-quality materials.”
