Farooq, is from the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), was elected as the Prime Minister after securing 38 out of 48 votes.

The other candidates Chaudhry Muhammad Yaseen of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Dewab Ghulam Mohiuddin who was the joint candidate of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Muslim Conference secured five votes each.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called the newly-elected Prime Minister of AJK and expressed his congratulations and good wishes. Farooq who is also the President of PML-N in AJK was named for the coveted office of AJK Prime Minister after the party swept the recent elections.
