The Rahim Yar Khan BISP roof collapse left at least eight women dead and more than 80 others injured when a shop roof gave way during Benazir Income Support Programme cash distribution ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. Current reports also describe the incident as having occurred in Chak 123P, Rahim Yar Khan district, on Monday.
District Police Officer Irfan Samo said women had gathered to collect government welfare payments when the structure collapsed. Rescue officials said the roof failed under the weight of the crowd.
According to The Independent, more than 100 women were present at the site. It says the shopkeeper allegedly directed some women onto the roof while others remained inside, increasing pressure on the structure.

The incident happened as women gathered for BISP payments before Eid al-Fitr. Overcrowding appears to have been a central factor, with rescue officials linking the collapse to the weight of the crowd.
Current reporting also confirms that rescue teams pulled victims from the debris and shifted them to Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan.
Hospital sources said many of the injured suffered head injuries, broken legs, and fractured arms. Several victims remained in critical condition.
Police registered a case at the Airport Police Station in connection with the collapse. They named five people in the First Information Report (FIR), including the private retailer’s device agent.
DPO Irfan Samo stated that authorities held the device agent responsible for the accident. The tragedy highlights recurring risks at aid distribution sites during Ramadan, especially when government agencies, charities, or businesses distribute food or cash.
That concern is supported by other recent incidents linked to BISP crowding. Reporting from just days earlier described a separate wall collapse at a BISP centre in Shangla that also caused casualties, underscoring that crowd safety at distribution points remains a broader issue.
