Emily Gold, a dancer and contestant on America’s Got Talent, has been confirmed. Gold, a notable talent from Los Osos High School in Southern California, committed suicide on Friday, Sept. 13.
The California Highway Patrol reported that Gold was found in the carpool lane of the eastbound 210 freeway after being struck by a vehicle. Officer Rodrigo Jimenez noted that upon arrival, officers found Gold had already died from her injuries and pronounced her deceased at the scene.
As the investigation continues, authorities appeal for anyone with information to step forward. Officer S. Gonzalez leads the inquiry, with support from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department.
Emily Gold had endeared herself to many, including Simon Cowell, just weeks before her death through a performance with the Los Osos High School dance team on America’s Got Talent. Their dynamic routine advanced them to the quarterfinals. Cowell lauded their act, comparing its vibrancy to that of “High School Musical.”
Reflecting on her dual commitment to dance and academics, Gold told People in August, “It’s tough to balance it all, but we make it happen,” showcasing her dedication to her craft up until her final moments on stage.
In response to her tragic loss, her family and friends have launched a GoFundMe to assist with funeral costs. The campaign’s message states, “With great sadness, we share our Los Osos Grizzly Emily Gold has passed away. Let’s unite as a community to support the Gold family in this difficult time.”
