A Powerful storm swept across Punjab, Pakistan, killing eight people and injuring 45 others, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). The disaster, affecting districts like Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Sialkot, and Mianwali, caused widespread damage to buildings, trees, and infrastructure, disrupting daily life.
PDMA has mobilised rescue operations, activated emergency centres, and pledged financial assistance to affected families, urging residents to prioritise safety amid ongoing risks.
The storm triggered significant destruction, with most fatalities linked to collapsing buildings and unsafe structures, per PDMA’s initial report. In Jhelum, three deaths resulted from wall collapses, while Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Sialkot, and Mianwali each reported one fatality.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz ordered rescue teams to remain vigilant, emphasising zero tolerance for negligence.

PDMA urged residents to stay indoors, avoid electric poles and dangling wires, and report hazards to local rescue teams, as strong winds and thunderstorms persist. The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasted continued heavy rain and thunderstorms across Punjab through May 25, 2025, raising concerns about further damage, per Radio Pakistan. The intensity, described as a “dense dust storm” in Lahore, underscores the need for caution, with authorities warning against unnecessary travel to prevent additional casualties. ‽
As Punjab recovers from the storm, PDMA’s ongoing relief efforts and financial aid aim to support affected communities. Residents are advised to stay updated via PDMA’s helpline and avoid risky areas.
