In a decisive move to combat corruption within the police force, Punjab has initiated the implementation of special court-martials for corrupt officers and personnel.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif decided in a meeting at Murree to form special court-martials for corrupt officers and personnel. The primary objective of the meeting was to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the law and order situation throughout the province.
During the session, the Inspector General of Police for Punjab delivered a comprehensive briefing on the current security conditions, highlighting the need for stringent measures against corruption. The resolutions passed include the court-martial of officers engaged in corrupt practices, introducing a special audit system to pinpoint and address unprofessional behaviour, and forming dedicated units to tackle cybercrime and organized crime.
Chief Minister Sharif underscored the necessity of eradicating the culture of illegal weapons to decrease crime rates. She instructed the enforcement of stringent penalties as a deterrent, the modernization of the police force with advanced weaponry, and the assurance that severe cases of abuse against women and children result in swift and just action.
Further initiatives discussed at the meeting include the establishment of a border security force to curb smuggling, the creation of specialized police divisions tailored to specific crimes, the development of a facility for direct reporting of bribery via the Chief Minister’s special dashboard, and proposed legislation to impose the death penalty in severe abuse cases involving women and children. These measures reflect a robust effort to enhance the efficacy and integrity of law enforcement in Punjab.
