On Sunday, the Punjab government ordered the 30-day detention of Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, former chief minister and current Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President, under 3 MPO. This decision was taken based on recommendations from the Lahore district intelligence committee. Elahi, who has been identified as a leading member and persuasive speaker of the PTI, is reportedly capable of provoking people into creating a law and order situation.
The Model Town SP and district intelligence committee expressed fears that Elahi could incite supporters to instigate chaos and potential damage to lives and property. Consequently, it was suggested that Elahi remain in custody for a month.

Elahi’s Legal Complications and Continued Incarceration
Elahi is currently being held in Lahore Camp Jail. Two FIRs (no 22/604 and 22/1822) have been lodged against him at the Qila Gujjar Singh Police Station, and another FIR (23/1150) at the Ghalib Market Police Station. Investigations under these FIRs have revealed Elahi’s involvement with his associates in activities such as arson, terrorism, and opposition to law enforcement agencies.
Despite receiving bail on July 11, Elahi remains incarcerated due to these ongoing legal complications. His arrest occurred on June 1 amid a crackdown on the PTI following protests on May 9. Since then, he has been rearrested several times on various charges, including two money laundering cases. The order issued by the deputy commissioner indicated that Elahi has the right to appeal against the decision to the Punjab government.
