Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved upgrading the Crime Control Department (CCD) to a Premier Investigation Agency (PIA).
According to the government, the department’s role will expand significantly. The new structure is intended to bring Punjab’s crime-fighting system closer to the standards of leading international investigation agencies.
The upgraded department will receive modern forensic tools, advanced investigation systems, AI software, intelligence surveillance support, and other high-tech equipment. As a result, officials say it will become Pakistan’s most technologically advanced law enforcement body.
The government has also approved a fully equipped CCD headquarters. In addition, offices, stations, and residential facilities will be developed across Punjab in divisions, districts, and tehsils to improve operations on the ground.
Punjab Crime Control Department Overhaul to Modernise Investigations
The reform plan focuses on faster investigations, better criminal tracking, and stronger law enforcement coordination. Officers will have access to modern monitoring tools to help identify suspects and respond more effectively.
After Eid al-Fitr, the government plans to launch a campaign against illegal firearms. This step supports broader efforts to reduce violent crime and tighten control over illegal weapons in Punjab.

Alongside the operational changes, the government is advancing new legislation to curb illegal weapons. The CCD has also been assigned to address acid attacks and other crimes against women through a more focused investigative response.
A modern crime research centre will also be established to support investigations and help develop long-term crime reduction strategies. This step may improve evidence-based policing and strengthen policy planning across the province.
Maryam Nawaz said the broader goal is to improve public safety, modernise law enforcement, and set new standards for crime control in Punjab.
