On Tuesday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif invited the national hockey team to her office and presented them with a check for Rs30 million for winning a silver medal in the Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament.
The CM stated, “Hockey is not only our national sport but also a national pride.” She emphasized that after 13 years of success, hockey players will receive support at every level.
She congratulated the team on behalf of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, and herself. “It is a proud moment that you have raised the national honour in hockey,” she said.
She observed young players nationwide and expressed confidence in future successes with proper support. A young sports minister has been appointed in Punjab and has made significant strides quickly.
Hockey players will receive support at every level. Sports Minister Faisal Khokhar is tasked with rehabilitating sports and bringing them to every street and neighbourhood in Punjab, she said.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif also mentioned financial support for hockey development. Academies will be improved, and international experts will be provided for training.
The national hockey team assured the CM of their commitment to earning more honours for the country.
