The Punjab Cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, announced a 30-40% reduction in electricity bills and launched a new airline called Air Punjab Private Company.
The cabinet has approved tariff reductions for Quaid-e-Azam Thermal Power and Punjab Thermal Power, which will lower electricity bills by up to 40% to combat inflation. The Chief Minister’s Wheat Program and a financing package of Rs 100 billion for flour mills were also authorised to support farmers. A ration card scheme for registered workers and 1,100 interest-free e-taxis in Lahore were also introduced.
The establishment of Air Punjab Private Company has been approved, with Nawaz Sharif directing that operations begin within a year to provide affordable travel. A land transfer for the Nawaz Sharif Medical City was also authorised, along with a grant of Rs400 million for the Punjab Journalist Housing Foundation. The Autism School and Resource Centre Lahore Act was also enacted.
Nawaz mandated safety kits for high-rise workers and sewer cleaners, emphasising, “Protecting human lives is the top priority,”. The cabinet banned vaping centres and approved the Child Protection Policy, reflecting social priorities. Charging stations for electric vehicles were ordered in major cities.
The decisions made by the Punjab Cabinet in 2025, including the reduction of electricity bills and the launch of Air Punjab, aim to address economic, social, and infrastructural needs, thereby enhancing public trust. Nawaz’s emphasis on labour safety measures and welfare schemes positions Punjab as a model for progressive governance, drawing national attention in 2025.
