The Punjab anti-drone gun deployment has started as the Home Department equips Civil Defence with advanced systems designed to counter hostile drones. According to the department’s spokesperson, the move marks a major step in strengthening civil defence and improving airspace protection.
As part of the initiative, Civil Defence units across Punjab will gradually receive anti-drone guns. For now, the first system has been deployed in the Rawalpindi Division under a pilot project.
The newly introduced EMG-150 anti-drone gun is designed to neutralise drones in mid-air. Officials said it can jam and bring down drones at a range of 2 to 3 kilometres. The device weighs 6 kg, which makes it easier to operate in the field. In addition, it can accurately target drones over long distances.
The system works across eight frequencies and uses a high-gain directional antenna for precise targeting. According to the spokesperson, this gives it the capability to interfere with a wide range of drone operations.
The EMG-150 Anti-Drone Gun Training
Alongside the rollout, the Civil Defence Bomb Disposal and Anti-Drone Squad is being trained by the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC).
That training is expected to help personnel operate the system effectively and respond more quickly to drone threats. The Home Department said more anti-drone guns will be added across the province as the programme expands.
Officials said the EMG-150 can interfere with a drone’s control signals, forcing it to land, become inoperable, or change its flight path. In some situations, the system can also safely bring a drone down.
The anti-drone gun can jam GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, and BeiDou signals. It also features a jamming system with output of up to 200 watts and can operate in temperatures ranging from -22°C to more than 65°C.
These features are expected to make the system suitable for different operating conditions across Punjab. The spokesperson said the broader plan aligns with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to strengthen Civil Defence capabilities.
The Home Department also said NRTC will continue producing additional anti-drone guns to support security efforts. The advanced system is expected to play an important role in protecting sensitive installations across Punjab.
