Photos of Chairman Senate Yusuf Raza Gilani reportedly vacationing in London with his sons at government expense have sparked a viral uproar on social media. Users are voicing strong disapproval over the alleged misuse of public funds for personal travel.
Yusuf Raza Gilani, a leader of the PPP and Chairman of the Senate, is officially in England for state duties. Two assembly members, his sons, accompany him. During this official trip, Gilani attended his grandson’s graduation ceremony, and images from the event and other private activities have been widely shared online, generating significant public backlash.
Journalist Mohsin Bilal highlighted the presence of Ali Musa Gilani and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in London, critiquing that once the local discomfort from heat and electricity bills subsides, these politicians will return to Pakistan for political manoeuvres. Meanwhile, he noted, Gilani’s sons and Bilawal are enjoying cooler climates abroad.
Journalist Abdul Waheed Murad shared a more pointed critique, posting a photo of Gilani with his grandson and female family members. He criticized the chairman’s travel to London under the guise of official business for personal events like his grandson’s graduation, sarcastically calling the Gilanis impoverished individuals who view such trips as their inherent right.
Journalist Maqadas Farooq Awan echoed these sentiments, accusing the Senate chairman of treating the national treasury as his family’s property by making an official visit to attend personal family events.
PTI leader Mohammad Shoaib Shaheen also condemned Gilani’s travel arrangements, noting that the chairman was in England with three senators and two assembly members, including his sons Qasim Gilani and Abdul Qadir Gilani. Shaheen labelled such actions as foundational to Pakistan’s ongoing challenges.
