Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has expressed serious concerns about the well-being of Bushra Bibi, spouse of former Prime Minister Imran Khan after ambulances and medical staff were seen at Bani Gala late Monday night.
The party has issued a warning, stating that they will hold those in power responsible for any negative developments regarding her health.
PTI Central Spokesperson Raoof Hasan has voiced concerns over her safety and security, demanding her immediate transfer to Shaukat Khanum Hospital for assessment by doctors trusted by her and Imran Khan. Hasan warned that consequences would follow if harm befell her, implicating Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and the jail superintendent.
Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, PTI Chairman, criticized the government for withholding information on her condition, asserting that Bushra Bibi is being detained unlawfully at the Bani Gala sub-jail.
The unexplained medical visit has alarmed PTI officials and supporters, sparking urgent calls for transparency regarding her health. Barrister Gohar described the situation as “extremely serious and worrisome.”
He condemned the authorities’ lack of communication and stressed the importance of accountability for her health and safety. He also denounced the government’s failure to fulfil its legal responsibilities toward her well-being.
During a press conference, PTI leaders underscored their determination to protect her health and safety, with PTI Central Information Secretary Raoof Hasan leading the discussion alongside PTI Senator Dr Humayun Mohmand, Naeem Haider Panjutha, and PTI Women Wing’s Kanwal Shauzab.
Hasan criticized the abrupt arrival and departure of the medical team at Bani Gala, saying that they had not communicated properly, calling it inhumane. He cautioned that public patience was wearing thin.
Senator Dr. Mohmand questioned the integrity of the medical assessments, suggesting potential foul play and possible poisoning, given her unaddressed digestive issues. He demanded a comprehensive investigation.
Panjutha remarked on the suspicious nature of the delay in medical treatment, given her previously good health. He mentioned her isolation and restricted contact, highlighting the precariousness of her situation.
Kanwal Shauzab pointed out the troubling trend of targeting women since the political regime change, emphasizing that Bushra Bibi, who held no political role, was being unfairly detained to leverage against Imran Khan. She called for Bushra Bibi’s immediate release from what she termed as unjust and politically motivated detention.
