On Thursday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to promptly issue the certificate for its intra-party elections and restore the party’s ‘bat’ electoral symbol.
The PTI Central Media Department issued the press release. It expressed dissatisfaction with the ECP’s repeated removal of the intra-party elections issue from its agenda, criticizing the commission for unnecessary delays.
A PTI spokesperson accused the ECP of being a major violator of the constitution and democratic principles in the country. The spokesperson alleged that the commission had shamelessly breached constitutional and legal norms more than at any other time.
The spokesperson also accused the current ECP of consistently undermining the political and democratic rights of citizens over the past two years, acting to exclude the public from politics and elections.
Describing the commission as neglectful, the spokesperson called on the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) to respond to Senator Ejaz Chaudhary’s complaint against the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and hold him accountable.
The spokesperson concluded by demanding that the commission adhere to the constitution and legal standards, issue the necessary certification for the intra-party elections, and return the electoral symbol without further delay.
