In Lahore today, a district court absolved PTI President Pervaiz Elahi of corruption allegations following his detention by ACE officials outside his residence. Two anti-corruption cases lodged against Elahi in Gujranwala and Lahore were presided over by Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Murtaza. The anti-corruption agency requested 14-day physical custody of Elahi, who was presented to the court in these two corruption cases.
The Lahore court concluded that the allegations against Elahi were not “well-founded” following the ACE investigation and inquiry. The court ordered the immediate release of the PTI leader unless required in any other criminal case. However, Elahi was promptly re-arrested following his release, this time on corruption charges filed against him in Gujranwala.
It’s crucial to note that the PTI President was apprehended by ACE officials and a police team from his residence, Zahoor Palace, in Lahore. Despite withdrawing his bail, the veteran politician failed to appear. The PTI president’s residence had been repeatedly visited by ACE and police officials since the annulment of his bail.
ACE officials indicated that Elahi was detained in relation to a corruption case involving Rs700 million. Notably, the former Punjab chief minister is implicated in two corruption cases in Gujranwala and one in Lahore.
