During today’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) nationwide protests, police detained multiple leaders and activists, including Latif Khosa and Salman Akram Raja. These actions occurred amidst demonstrations against alleged electoral fraud in the February 8 general elections.
PTI called for these protests, leading to significant gatherings in cities like Rawalpindi, Karachi, and Lahore. In Lahore, authorities arrested PTI workers at GPO Chowk and significantly increased police presence. Arrests were extended to PTI-backed legislators Hafiz Farhat Abbas, Mian Haroon Akbar, and others in Multan.
Karachi prepared for PTI demonstrations by strategically deploying police and Sindh Rangers. Rawalpindi saw clashes between PTI protesters and security forces, leading to further arrests, though some detainees were subsequently released.
Demonstrations also occurred in Tank, Faisalabad, Islamabad, and various other cities. In 2022, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur was accused of conspiring against their government and called for a judicial commission to investigate election result tampering.
He criticized the allocation of PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) reserved seats to other parties, which a major Election Commission verdict deemed unconstitutional.
Gandapur vowed to continue protests for PTI’s rights. At the same time, Senator Faisal Javed expressed hope for Imran Khan’s release, criticizing the current government and advocating for the restoration of the public mandate.
