The PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) party has established a three-member committee to negotiate with the collation ruling government.
Following JI’s announcement of initiating talks between the government and PTI due to the deteriorating economic and political situation in the economically-challenged country.
Asad Umar, Secretary General, shared on Twitter that this decision was made after a meeting between PTI Chairman Imran Khan and JI Emir Sirajul Haq to address the current challenges. Umar notified that the committee comprises former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, PTI Senator Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhary, and ex-Punjab Minister Mian Mehmood ur Rashid.
Just a day before, JI Emir initiated efforts to bring PTI and the ruling alliance to the negotiation table by holding separate meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PTI’s leader. They discussed the country’s political climate and the judicial crisis, agreeing that issues should be addressed collectively.
Insiders revealed that the meetings were very successful, with both parties agreeing to negotiate to resolve the long-standing conflict that negatively impacted the nation’s economy and citizens.
PTI has been protesting since their removal from power in April last year, calling for early elections that the government has consistently rejected. PTI dissolved Punjab and KP assemblies to pressure the government into holding nationwide elections, but the Shehbaz-led administration remained steadfast.
The situation shifted when the Supreme Court ordered Punjab elections on May 14. However, parliament dismissed the verdict, creating tension between the judiciary and the government.
JI Secretary Information Qaisar Sharif, quoting Haq, confirmed, “The country cannot afford any chaos at this time.” Both parties agreed to continue meetings and involve other parties in the process. Imran Khan appreciated JI’s efforts during a meeting at his Zaman Park residence, and the two sides agreed to maintain contact after Eid ul Fitr.
