Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas demanded the Commonwealth Observer Group release its report on the February 8, 2024, elections. He called the elections a “mega poll robbery” due to widespread rigging and bias against PTI and its leader, Imran Khan.
Waqas said the leaked report confirms PTI’s concerns about unfair practices. It notes the PTI was denied its bat symbol, and Khan faced three convictions just before the polls, blocking his candidacy. The report also highlights vote tampering in Forms 45, 46, and 47, favouring rivals. Waqas claimed PTI faced arrests, office raids, and internet blackouts, while opponents campaigned freely. He also pointed out that courts lifted Nawaz Sharif’s ban, allowing his return, but targeted PTI unfairly.
Waqas urged the government to cut fuel prices to ease the burden of inflation and flood damage on citizens. He accused the government of ignoring flood victims, showing an “anti-people” attitude. He also criticised the government’s weak anti-terrorism efforts, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Waqas said the government focuses on crushing PTI and Khan instead of fighting terrorism, which has surged recently.

Waqas condemned the government for failing to honour National Action Plan promises to support Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the Fata merger. He called the shift of the Frontier Corps headquarters to Islamabad a move to suppress PTI, not fight terrorism. He suggested the government should also relocate the Rangers if security is the true goal. Waqas expressed grief for soldiers and citizens lost due to poor policies and demanded funds for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s recovery.
