A petition has been lodged with the Supreme Court (SC) against the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), along with former army chief General Retired Qamar Javed Bajwa and former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen Retired Faiz Hameed. The petition was submitted by lawyer Inamur Rahim.
According to the petition, 29 civilians faced court-martial from military courts while the PTI chairman held the country’s prime minister position. The document argued that these civilians were illicitly detained and subsequently sentenced by military courts during the tenure of the PTI chief.
The petition asserts that the PTI chief, alongside Qamar Javed Bajwa and Faiz Hameed, violated the constitutional rights of Pakistani citizens. Rahim, therefore, sought the nullification of these penalties and the verdicts handed down by the military courts during the PTI government’s rule.
Demands for Criminal Proceedings and Information Disclosure
In addition to seeking nullification of penalties and military court verdicts, the petition also called for the commencement of criminal proceedings against the PTI chief, Bajwa, and Hameed, owing to their alleged violation of civilian rights.
Moreover, Inamur Rahim has requested the Supreme Court to command the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Branch of the Pakistani armed forces to disclose the details of court-martials and penalties imposed on civilians by the military courts.
The petition also demanded the apex court to summon records of cases currently pending in high courts that are challenging the court-martial of civilians.
