The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced on September 26, 2025, the adoption of Wi-Fi 7 and future Wi-Fi generations in the 6 GHz band (5925–6425 MHz), aligning with Wi-Fi 6E parameters.
Wi-Fi 7 offers ultra-high data rates, low latency, and strong reliability. It supports 8K streaming, AR/VR applications, and industrial automation. By reducing congestion in older bands, it lowers broadband costs, thereby enhancing connectivity for homes, SMEs, campuses, healthcare facilities, and smart cities.
The PTA’s move supports bridging the digital divide and building network resilience. It aligns with Pakistan’s goal of an inclusive digital economy, fostering innovation and accessibility across sectors.

Pakistan’s 5G Rollout Plans
On Tuesday, IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja announced 5G services will launch in seven major cities within months. Speaking at the 26th ITCN Asia Expo in Karachi, she emphasised the need for reliable internet access nationwide. Despite the challenges noted in the PTA’s 2024 report, broadband penetration is on the rise, with 130 million users in 2024 (PTA data).

Khawaja highlighted Pakistan’s stabilising economy, with reduced inflation and no default fears. The recently signed Pakistan-Saudi IT agreement is expected to boost digital infrastructure. “Karachi carries the weight of economic development,” she said, underscoring IT’s role in growth.
Wi-Fi 7 and 5G plans mark Pakistan’s tech leap, supporting 40% of its population using mobile broadband (GSMA, 2024). These steps enhance connectivity, drive economic progress, and position Pakistan as a regional tech hub.
