Pakistan’s telecom regulator has issued a PTA CNIC update warning, telling mobile users to keep their identity records up to date or risk having their SIM cards blocked.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said SIMs linked to expired CNICs, cancelled records or identity documents in another person’s name may be blocked at any time. The regulator said timely updates are necessary to avoid service disruption.
PTA said it is working to maintain seamless mobile services nationwide. At the same time, it urged users to make sure their registration details remain accurate and up to date.
The main warning is simple: if a SIM is tied to an expired CNIC or registered under someone else’s identity, including that of a deceased person, the number may be blocked without notice.
The advisory reflects a broader regulatory push to improve service reliability and ensure telecom user records are accurate.
For consumers, that means checking both CNIC validity and SIM ownership details before a problem arises. Users should promptly renew expired CNICs and resolve cancellation issues through the relevant channels.
An earlier PTA advisory issued on March 19, 2026, about unexpected mobile balance deductions.
According to PTA, users may face extra charges when their internet bundles expire, because data use can continue at higher Pay-As-You-Go rates. To reduce that risk, telecom operators offer a free “Balance Save” or PAYG blocker service.
PTA said the Balance Save feature automatically stops mobile internet once a data bundle has been exhausted. That helps users protect their remaining balance from fast deductions at PAYG rates.
Together, the two advisories show the regulator’s focus on both service continuity and consumer protection. One centres on CNIC-linked SIM compliance, while the other targets unexpected balance loss.
