The Pakistan Super League (PSL) plans to grow from six to eight teams post-2025, CEO Salman Naseer announced on March 13, 2025. Launched in 2016 in the UAE amid security issues, the PSL now thrives in Pakistan, aiming to boost its appeal and competitiveness with this expansion.
Naseer shared, “By year-end, we might add two teams.” The PSL expansion is pivotal as media and sponsorship rights hit the market. PSL 2026 will also reach new cities, with Peshawar hosting its first exhibition game—a step toward full matches. The trophy’s nationwide tour will further engage fans in non-host cities.

Since reviving cricket in Pakistan’s major hubs—Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Multan—the PSL seeks broader reach. Facing rivals like SA20 and ILT20 in its January-February slot, the league’s value depends on 2025 data. “More teams mean a bigger window,” Naseer noted, eyeing enhanced commercial prospects.

The 2025 season kicks off April 11, with Islamabad United, three-time champions, leading the pack. The PSL expansion aims to elevate the league’s stature as rights valuations loom, testing its growth strategy amid global competition.
This PSL expansion signals an ambition to deepen cricket’s roots in Pakistan. The league strengthens its fanbase and market position by adding teams and cities, setting the stage for a dynamic future.
